MEFOS's research activities consist of collaborative research for member companies and contract research for individual clients. MEFOS performs research on both pilot-plant and production scales. The work is carried out in close cooperation with the steel industry and the academic world, which gives a broad base for the development of existing and new processes.

MEFOS's research is divided into:

  • Development of existing and new metallurgical processes by using large pilot-plant and production equipment
  • Industrial application of computer modelling and simulation of metallurgical processes
  • Environmental engineering of metallurgical and other processes
  • Measurement technology of metallurgical processes
  • Energy efficiency and energy production in metallurgical processes
The research is performed by three departments
